Hi there!
My name is Verne Ahyong, and I'm the author of this blog. I'm a 24-year old working as a Communication Specialist for a public relations firm called Creative Point International. My previous work experience includes working as an operations supervisor/copywriter for The Maxwell Hotel Cebu (family business) and a Blogger/Trainer for Leads Philippines.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the Ateneo de Manila University last 2009, and am currently taking up my Masters in Business Administration at the Ateneo Graduate School of Business in Rockwell. But as you can see, I have no aversion to the color green; thus my blog's catchphrase - "Read Green. Live Greener."
I am a proud delegate of the Ateneo Student Leaders' Assembly (ASLA), where I learned so much about how to be a socially-aware and service-oriented leader. My mentors and colleagues from ASLA continue to inspire the best in me today.
Environment Philippines started out as an entry to the Be the Spark Contest held in 2010 by BE Resorts in Mactan, Cebu. To make the long story short, I lost the contest, but still decided to pay and join the mangrove planting activity organized by the resort. My trip to the Olango Bird Sanctuary off the coast of Mactan and my experience planting mangroves inspired me to continue writing.
Then, hundreds of blog posts later, Environment Philippines was awarded by the Philippine Blog Awards as the 2011 Nationals Best Advocacy Blog. Hopefully, this blog will help inspire others to make the Philippines and the world a greener place for all of us to live in harmony with nature.
