Tribu Upcycled Footwear, environment friendly sandals for the outdoors

Tribu, a Philippine adventure and lifestyle brand founded by Jason and Renan Luengo in 1995, launched a new line of environment-friendly footwear as part of its project, Tribu Sole Initiative: Upcycled.

Upcycling is the process of using trash and discarded materials to create something completely usable again. In this case, Tribu handcrafts soles from discarded tires, and transforms them into sandals perfect for rugged, outdoor use.

By Upcycling discarded tires, the company helps reduce the number estimated 242 million tires thrown in landfills each year globally. In the Philippines, the number is pegged at 11 million yearly. In fact, two pairs of Tribu sandals are equivalent to one upcycled tire.
